Our Industry-Leading Mosquito Extermination Method
We Start with a Thorough Investigation
Mosquitoes can be especially nasty pests. They are among the most adaptable and resilient insects on earth, and they can be found in some pretty extraordinary places. They’ve been discovered in mines nearly a mile below the surface of the earth and on mountain peaks 14,000 feet in the air. Virtually any collection of water, natural or man-made, will support mosquito reproduction. So there’s a good possibility that mosquitoes are breeding right in your backyard. Our technicians have the experience and expertise to identify each problem location in your yard and thoroughly treat these areas.
Our Mosquito Exterminators Treatment Tool Chest
We offer a variety of different treatments for mosquito extermination and will provide recommendations for the procedure that’s right for your yard.
We’ll give you a more comfortable and enjoyable outdoor experience—and we offer an industry leading warranty to prove it! If mosquitoes are still causing you headaches after our treatment, we’ll come back and treat your yard again, free of charge.

Mosquito - Culicidae
Mosquitoes can be distinguished easily from other flies by the fact that they have both a long, piercing proboscis and scales on the veins of their wings.
Biology
Life Cycle
- Egg: Eggs are laid one at a time and, in some species, attached together to form “rafts.” Some species lay their eggs on a water surface, while others lay them on damp soil that will be flooded. Water is crucial to mosquito eggs’ habitat.
- Larva: Larvae live in the water, coming to the surface to breathe. Many have siphon tubes for breathing, while others lie parallel to the surface to get oxygen through an opening. Larvae shed their skins 4 times, growing larger with each molt.
- Pupa: Pupae are mobile, able to respond to light changes by flipping their tails toward protection, but the pupal stage is a resting, non-feeding stage of development. Once complete, the skin splits and the adult mosquito emerges.
- Adult: The newly emerged imago rests on the water’s surface while its body parts harden and dry off. Its wings must spread out and be fully dry before the mosquito can fly. Blood feeding and mating typically occur 2 – 3 days post emergence.

Who To Hire
What to Look for When Hiring Mosquito Exterminators
- The pest management company should be licensed by the state and insured.
- Mosquito exterminators should be certified pest management professionals and fully licensed in the state.
- The company should be a member of a professional organization, such as the National Pest Management Association.
- The company should have a staff entomologist or access to one.
- Technicians should have experience with mosquito yard treatments.
- Choose a company based on its quality of service, not the price. Research user reviews and testimonials to solidify your choice.
- A pre-inspection should be conducted to assess the scope of the work.
- The proposed work should follow the steps of integrated pest management, not just pesticide application.

How Does EnviroPest Specifically Handle Mosquitoes?
EnviroPest is trained to manage Mosquitoes:
– Inspection – We will inspect and treat not only the areas of infestation but also the areas that are considered high risk areas within a home. The more extensive and detailed the treatment the more effective.
– Prevention – Humidity should be reduced if possible in the high risk areas and any building materials. Moisture should be removed from any area containing highly conducive areas that could create areas of harborage. We can help identify these areas with our clients as we walk through the property.
– Warranty – We are happy to check after a period of time on whether the problems have been resolved. Areas should be checked regularly considering this issue takes a while to occur and become visible. A proper pest control company will also offer a warranty after they treat the infestation.
What conditions increase mosquito activity in Upstate New York and Pennsylvania?
Mosquito activity usually increases when warm weather is combined with repeated rainfall and water remains undisturbed around a property. Wooded shade, dense landscaping, drainage problems, and outdoor containers can also provide breeding or resting sites. Because conditions vary between properties, an inspection should look for actual water sources and protected areas rather than relying only on the season.
Why do mosquitoes often become more noticeable after heavy rain?
Rain can refill clogged gutters, planters, tarps, toys, tires, birdbaths, equipment, and low areas in a yard. These sites may hold water long enough for immature mosquitoes to develop. Checking the property after storms can remove new breeding opportunities before another group of adults emerges.
How much standing water is needed for mosquitoes to reproduce?
A large pond is not required. Small water-holding items around a home, farm, rental property, or business may provide enough habitat for eggs and larvae. Containers should be inspected at least weekly, drained and cleaned when possible, stored upside down, or covered securely.
Are lakes and ponds always the main source of mosquitoes near a property?
Not necessarily. The source may be much closer to the building than the lake or pond itself. Around lakefront and rural properties, mosquito development may occur in boat covers, dock equipment, rain barrels, clogged drains, tree holes, plant containers, or stagnant water along poorly drained areas. Properly maintained pools and moving or circulating water are generally less suitable than undisturbed water.
Why can wooded and heavily landscaped yards have more mosquito activity?
Adult mosquitoes often rest in dark, humid, sheltered areas when they are not actively searching for a host. Dense shrubs, vegetation, the space beneath decks, patio furniture, garages, and shaded structures may provide this protection. Vegetation does not replace the water needed for mosquito development, but it can allow adults to remain close to patios and other outdoor living areas.
Can a single mosquito treatment keep a yard mosquito-free all summer?
A treatment may reduce adult activity in targeted areas, but it cannot prevent every mosquito from entering from neighboring land or stop new breeding sites from forming after rain. Sunlight, moisture, vegetation growth, and changing outdoor conditions can also affect treated areas. Longer-term management works best when water removal, appropriate larval control, targeted treatment of adult resting sites, and continued property checks are combined.
What is the difference between larval and adult mosquito control?
Larval control addresses mosquitoes while they are still developing in water, before they can fly and spread across the property. Adult control targets mosquitoes resting in protected vegetation and other shaded areas. An effective plan may use one or both methods depending on what the inspection finds, rather than applying the same treatment to every yard.
Do mosquitoes only bite around dusk and dawn?
No. Mosquito species do not all follow the same feeding schedule, and bites can occur during both daytime and evening hours. Residents should not rely only on avoiding one part of the day. EPA-registered repellent, appropriate clothing, and maintained window and door screens provide broader protection.
Are mosquitoes only a nuisance in New York and Pennsylvania?
Mosquito bites commonly cause itching and irritation, but mosquitoes can also spread pathogens, including West Nile virus. That does not mean every mosquito is infected or that every bite causes illness, but reducing bites remains important. Personal protection should include an EPA-registered repellent used according to its label, clothing that covers exposed skin when practical, and intact screens around the home.
What should be done with standing water that cannot be emptied?
Water that serves a necessary purpose should first be covered securely, kept circulating, or otherwise managed so mosquitoes cannot reach it. When water cannot be drained or protected, a larvicide may be appropriate if it is registered and labeled for that specific setting. The product label must be followed, and the selected method should reflect how the water is used and the conditions around the property.
